A sizable contingent of SMRI expert and novice racers made the trip south to Arroyo Seco Raceway at the beginning of this month to participate in the recently revived North-South Cup. A long-running tradition, the two-club series was held again in 2016 after several years’ hiatus. The April 9 event was the second race round for ASMA and the first round of this year’s North-South Cup.

SMRI racers Daniel Berger, Jesse Beck, Scott Cloninger, Lance Echols, Kevin Gibson, Josh Hill, Daniel Junick, Cedric Madden, and Kim Prichard competed in 13 ASMA classes. Only five classes count to the North-South Cup (see list below for races included in the Cup).

You can read Daniel Berger’s write up on Roadracingworld.com, along with the complete race results for the April 9 event.

Spring is here, and a new race season begins SOON! We don't just need to get our bikes ready, we need to get our track and equipment ready too.

Come out on Saturday morning, April 22, and help repair and re-cover air fences, clean and inspect loaner gear, and whatever else we can reasonably get done in a morning. We'll start at 9 AM and go until as much is done as is practical.

Novice racers (years 1-3) can complete their required 4 hours of Club Service by coming and helping at a work day.

    See you there!

PJ's Motorcycles sponsored SMRI's July 16th track day and attendance and events set a new standard by which future events will be judged.  More than 60 riders attended the event, followed by a gluttonous pot-luck dinner and Dirt Track Racing on the Sandia Motorsports complex!

The track day was followed by the northern meeting of the 2016 North/South Challenge Cup event sponsored by SMRI and ASMA.  Racing was excellent and although we haven't done all the math yet SMRI and ASMA are pleased to announce that Mikey Shreve, who regularly participates at both clubs, takes the gold medal as the fastest unlimited expert racer in the combined events.  Congratulations Mikey!!!!  We'll announce the honors in the other classes as results are tabulated.

This year's Bobby J's Track Day drew nearly 50 participants making it the most well attended Bobby J's track day in the club's history!  The event started on time and had very few on-track incidents so all the riders got maximum time in the saddle.  The school group was quite robust and everyone seemed to learn a bit while having lots of fun.....a win-win situation for all!

Next month's date on July 16 is hosted by PJ's Motorcycles and tickets are already available through PJ's.  This event will also be part of the SMRI/ASMA North/South Challenge Cup series so we'll have lots of guests from Arroyo Seco to help us have a great weekend.  We plan a pot luck dinner that evening with refreshments by Santa Fe Brewing Company, so come out and camp at the track for a weekend of fast and fun.

SMRI's first track day of the year drew 71 riders, making it the most highly attended SMRI track day in two years.  Not to be outdone, Steve and the folks at Moto-Authority drew 77 riders to their May 7th event, making it the most highly attended SMRI track day in nearly FIVE YEARS!!!!!

SMRI would like to thank Moto-Authority for their support of roadracing in New Mexico and we ask you to support us by visiting our sponsors, like Moto-Authority.

Our next track day is Sunday, June 5th, sponsored by Bobby J's Yamaha.  Tickets are available at Bobby J's right now for $100 each, or you can purchase one at the track on June 5th for $125.  Stop by and see Chris, Dylan, or any of the fine folks at Bobby J's for your ticket TODAY!!! (well....it's Monday as I write this...so wait until they're open tomorrow...but you get the idea.)  Let them know that you're there to help them set the bar even higher!

SMRI's first track day of the 2016 season, hosted by Sandia BMW Motorcycles and Santa Fe BMW Motorcycles attracted 71 riders!  This is the best turn out we've had for several years and we hope it is a sign of things to come for this season.

A special thanks to the fine folks at both dealerships, all the riders who came out to ride, all our Corner Marshals, Officers, and volunteers who made this happen, and to the Sandia Motorsports Park staff who prepared the facility for the event.  Kudos to all of you!!!

We look forward to seeing all of you and more at the May 7th track day sponsored by Moto-Authority.  Tickets are available at Moto-Authority for $100 until May 6th or at the track for an extra $25 on the 7th.
